New season - New obstacles
Written by Administrator
Sunday, 04 April 2010

The new season is starting and we are all very happy. We are happy that we can go out and ride our bikes, we are happy that we can swim in the lakes even if it requires a use of wetsuit, but with all this new aspiration also come new obstacles. And they are everywhere, but mostly while we are riding 25mph headwinds. So always be patient and remember that you have to think for the rest of the people too sometimes or even most of the times. Especialy those for those who are on four wheels. And don't forget that while it's great to do 100 mile rides twice a week, our bodies get tired and along our braines and our motor skills... just keep your eyes open and ears ipod free!

My hubby had the unfortunate experience this year and this happened to him while riding to the gym in Kona, HI. (well this article I borrowed from USAT, I think it's a good one). Read on and be safe!

CARS TURNING LEFT

Let me tell you the story of one of my vintage crashes. I'm riding on Highway 50, in South Lake Tahoe, during a circumnavigation of that lake with a group of friends. We're one mile away from finishing our 72-mile journey.

It was a typical Summer day, with cars bumper-to-bumper on both sides of the road. We're riding on the right-hand shoulder at 20mph or better. All of a sudden, a Volvo appears out of nowhere, and we all plow into him, the whole paceline of four or five guys. We all go down. What happened? A motorist traveling in the other direction desired to make a left-hand turn across traffic. Obliging motorists traveling in our direction made a space for him. He didn't see us. We didn't see him.

Who was at fault? Technically, the driver of the Volvo turned into oncoming traffic. But a case could just as easily be made that we were guilty of "unsafe passing on the right." If a policeman is predisposed against cyclists, he's likely to see it that way.

If you have to ride in traffic like that, look for an opening in the traffic in front of you. The likeliest reason for this space is to allow a vehicle to cross the road, right in front of you.

So long paradise ...
Written by Administrator
Wednesday, 24 March 2010

Hi, all.

It has been a while since  I have posted. My sincere appologies. I am finaly comming home from a long training/searching trip. We have accomplished the mission we came here for, however my training could look little better in the last 3 weeks (but I guess one can get sick in paradise too).

I will just make a real quick oversimplification here of what my training looked like.

3 days a week of cycling (about 20 - 40 mile sessions  and one longer one,  50 and above)

2-3 days of swimming (either ocean or pool, usually nothing longer than 1 hour of total swim time) pretty much just long distance and technique

2-3 times a week running, which would consist of 2 shorter runs (about 40 min - 1hr runs and) and 1 longer run about 1.5 hr to 2 hr.

and stretching, some walking and hiking....surfing didn't go so well :))) but there is always next time. As soon as I come home I will let you all know what is going on with a next set of training round and will post more what to times and distances.

Chicago, I am back XOXOXO
